6/28/08 - Back to Reality         (T. Camp)

22:30 ET (6/26/08 after the race) We had a very nice couple take us to a great dinner and they treated. We had salmon. Our hosts belong to a Model T club here in the Mansfield area and do monthly outings just like the Model A club in St. Louis. They said they may let us have a chance to drive the Model T  tomorrow at the field festivities. I am a little nervous because the  3 pedals and steering wheel gadgets. I will try to get some fun pictures to post. Cheers.

09:00 ET -    Well it is Saturday morning and it is a relief to not be threatened by weather for a change. I had oatmeal for breakfast and visited with some of the pilots. We got our score sheet and it had an error on it. They are trying to fix it now. I got a dose of reality when I discovered that I was calculating the scoring wrong and in fact we should see a score of about 9. I don’t think any of our numbers were very competitive but we will find out in a couple of days. I am still learning about racing but for now I need to do a load of laundry! - T

6/28/08– 1B9 Dinner and Festivities    ( T. Camp)

We spent the day at the airport (1B9) with a great fair and lots of things to do. Evelyn and I got to ride in the Scott’s Model T and I even got to drive it. I stalled it once and hand to hand crank it. Beats hand propping any day of the week. It is a beautiful car and they are about the nicest people I have ever met. We let them sit in Trixie and compare dashboards– less instruments but I still think the Model T is harder to FLY!! We saw a great woodcarver and a guy who made a dolphin sculpture out of aluminum tubes that shot water! We had a great dinner of lobster chowder, a whole lobster, steamed clams, potatoes, corn on the cob, cake and more and best of all we ate most of it with our HANDS.

We had a hangar dance and live music. The people here are so nice and today has been very relaxing and fun!
