6/29/08 - Last Day and Banquet (B. Camp)
Ok, could not leave you hanging without a quick final disposition of the end of the race. In the morning the team had a question and answer session and then a chance for all teams to express comments both good and bad about the experiences with the race. The idea of this is to ensure that following years will be more safe and more fun for racers.
While the intention of this information session is good, it is clear that there is resistance to really making fundamental changes to help make judgment calls by race officials. There is a lot of “established protocol” and friendships that sometime get in the way of those pesky rules and that can and does cause friction among racers albeit a quiet rumble under the surface.
Still in the end, apparently all went well and everyone met for the banquet in the evening. Trixieteam placed 28th so no trophies to dust off this year, but the ladies seemed satisfied with their effort. It was certainly an experience to remember with the weather, other racers, and of course the incredible friends and family along the route and those at home watching via the web.
The team cannot say enough nice things about the towns and airports they visited. The incredible welcomes along the route and of course the terminus festivities and people of Mansfield made the trip all worth it no matter where they placed in the standings.
The duo is a bit tired however and report that they will attempt to leave Mansfield tomorrow for a direct flight back to St. Louis as soon as weather permits. Trixie needs about 7 hours to get here so it should only take a day if the sun shines a bit. The planned side trip down the Hudson and New York is just too much work at this point. They have to save something for next time– Right? Thank you all for your support.- Trixieteam 21 |
