Yes we know that you do not NEED all this stuff to fly but especially when you are in unfamiliar airspace, it is nice to have a few extra goodies to help you out. Enjoy the tour and as usual, your questions or comments are always welcome. - TrixieTeam #21 |

WX-1000 BFG Stormscope A stormscope or strike finder is handy in locating the storm activity within our flight path. While this equipment will not locate weather cells, it does provide an indication of lightning and heavy weather activity which we can use in active weather fly-around planning. We can adjust the range of the scope to reflect a dstance of up to 200 nautical miles. The scope also has adjustable vision from 120 degrees gyro fixed in front of the aircraft or a 360 degree top view around the plane. |

Garmin GNS-430 This is one of the most popular panel mount GPS on the market. The panel can be set to go to direct to or we can program in new waypoints easily on the fly. Current Com data as well as COM info at waypoints can be configured and set on standby as we approach the point. Limited flight planning can performed and terrrain coupled data is through a card provided by our sponsor Jeppesen. |

Lowrance Airmap 2000C Portable GPS This is a back-up GPS that we primarily set to an active moving map that follows our route. This unit features one of the largest high resolution displays available. The flexibility of the zoom and the display size allows us to view just a few miles of our route all the way out to 4000 miles and stores up to 10,000 individual points along the way to Massachusetts. |

SureCheck TPAS RX-110 Traffic Proximity Alert This is a handy portable unit which passively listens for transponders that have been interrogated from traffic control or other tracking radar. It gives us an indication of sometimes unseen traffic and provides an audible alert as to distance. Newer units can determine altitude and all TPAS systems have limited usefulness near an airport or very busy airspace. However TPAS adds a measure of comfot to know we have some extra help in our sky-view. |

JRC 520 HANDHELD NAV/COMM A standard 5 watt portable as a back-up Com primarily; but also can tune into an ILS too if panel power is lost. We carry an alkaline pack as well as a standard rechargeable battery and headset interface. Even for local flying, it is ALWAYS a good idea to have a back-up comm radio for emergencies. |
